The National Democratic Training Committee develops curriculum to help Democrats run for office and/or work on campaigns across the country. It offers a wide range of free courses in areas like fundraising, digital strategy and communications that are available on-demand, 24/7.
The Challenge
NDTC strives to train as many people in the political process as possible. But the diversity in experience and desired goals of different adult learners challenges how content is curated and disseminated. Its existent LMS (Learning Management System) needed improvement in segmenting course content to accommodate the needs of a growing swath of aspiring candidates as well as volunteers looking to work on successful campaigns or help out in local organizations.
Focus groups and stakeholder discussions highlighted the need for:
Personalized content pathways for different learner group types
Data-driven content curation for better engagement and retention
Self-management & ownership of learning accomplishments
The Approach
Address learning needs
Map relevant courses to learners based on defined goals
Accommodate learning preferences
Design multimodal content (audio/video/text, etc) for content mastery
Advocate learner autonomy
Users self-direct and own their learning
The Outcome
Personalized user journeys with individual tracks
Created a roadmap for each user’s defined pathway based on preferences
Created a dashboard for tracking individual progress
